    Plaquenil make me itch

After about 3 weeks I had a headache that never went away. The rheumatologist advised me to stop taking it for 3 days and then start again, on 200 mg per day.

Rash from plaquenil. deleted_user 10/30/2011. I have been on plaquenil for about 3 weeks and I am starting to get a itchy rash. It's pretty mild so far starting on my forearms and now on my chest a little and the rest of my arms. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it go away? I am going to call my doc tomorrow but just wanted someone's opinion. Practically any type of rash can occur in lupus, ranging from widespread mild rashes similar to those seen in viral illnesses such as German measles, to small, distinct patches of rash on the elbows and knees resembling another skin condition, psoriasis. Rashes caused by lupus can sometimes be itchy or painful. Plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus & others.

After 30 days I refilled that prescription and the next generic batch caused me to itch all over, almost constantly. The rheum said to stop taking it and we began a 4 week process of getting the brand name Plaquenil approved by my insurance company. I did that and worked back up to 400 mg with no problem.

I think Plaquenil makes my itching worse, but it helps with my fevers and swelling. Some days I think the itching might be as bad as the fevers and swelling. 😉
