In rare cases, Plaquenil can cause cardiomyopathy, a chronic disease of the heart muscle. If you're taking Plaquenil for an autoimmune condition, your symptoms should begin to improve after a few. I started with plaquenil last year, yes it took almost 6 months to get a level in your body, it does help, trust me. I was on Prednisone 7.5 to 10 mg per day, had a bad flair up and I am on 40 mg per day, last Friday the dr.''s told me to go down by 5 mg per week, so from 40mg to 35 mg per day. Jan 29, 2007 My rheumatologist did not think think the Plaquenil would cause liver problems so he told me to go back on it. I have been back on it for almost 2 weeks. the day I started back on it, I developed a rash on my hands and forearms, which is itchy on and off.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

I am terribly allergi to sulfa, had a rash just like that and spent 3 days in a bathtub of cold water just to get relief as alegy med did not even touch it. Since the drug is cumulative in its effects you may be having an allergic reaction. My Father had the same reaction took him 3 weeks to develop it and he had to stop. It took 2 weeks for the rash to go away, but it was the Plaquenil. Now he's on Methotrexate and doing well. Reasons Why Your Rash Won’t Go Away.
