Yes I have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis and it's not fun. It's harder to find meds bc most of these meds that go thru clinical trials r for ra patients with a positive rheumatoid factor. I've been on pretty much every med with no success. There is only a small percentage of ra patients whom r seronegative. Plaquenil is a DMARD which has been prescribed for years to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. When the first biologic DMARD received FDA-approval in 1998, and as other biologics followed in subsequent years, it appeared as though Plaquenil would become less prescribed. Then, last night the results of my vectra test came back. She messaged me and said I also have high rheumatoid arthritis disease activity, and diagnosed me with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. I was told the Plaquenil will not be enough to treat me, and I'm to schedule an appointment sooner than the two months out like I was originally told.

But now, the presence of RF or ACPA is no longer considered necessary for a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. When RF and ACPA are negative, but a person has symptoms similar to those of rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative arthritis can be diagnosed. People who have either RF or ACPA antibodies have seropositive RA. Hydroxychloroquine is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD used for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
